as General Aviation Appreciation Month
Naples, FL (May 22, 2024) – The Naples Airport Authority Board of Commissioners proclaimed May 2024 as General Aviation Appreciation Month during their monthly meeting on May 16, 2024. The proclamation recognizes the vital role and significant contributions of the general aviation industry to Naples, Florida, and the broader United States.
Established in 1943 during World War II, Naples Airport has a rich history of serving both military and civilian aviation needs. Over the years, it has grown into a critical transportation hub, initially operated jointly by the City of Naples and Collier County. Following the City of Naples’ acquisition in 1958, the Naples Airport Authority was formed in 1969 to manage and develop the airport under a 99-year lease agreement.
General aviation airports across Florida serve as essential connectors for communities, providing crucial services such as medical transportation, aerial firefighting, law enforcement support, and disaster relief. In addition to serving as gateways for business and leisure travelers, these airports play a pivotal role in stimulating economic growth and job creation.
The economic impact of Naples Airport is significant, contributing $781 million annually to the local economy and supporting over 5,000 jobs. Furthermore, the Federal Aviation Administration recognizes Naples Airport as an asset of national significance, reflecting its importance in the national aviation infrastructure.
