Diving into Dumpster Do’s and Don’ts
With peak season coming to an end, now is a good time to evaluate hangar contents and do a little spring cleaning before heading out to more temperate climates for the summer. The NAA provides dumpster enclosure areas on the airfield for our tenants’ convenience and asks everyone to be mindful of these guidelines when disposing of items to maintain a FOD- and wildlife-free environment, and a safe airport.
WHAT CAN GO IN
- General trash
- Food scraps and containers
- Cardboard boxes (flattened)
WHAT CAN’T GO IN*
- Oversized items such as furniture, appliances and pallets
- Hazardous materials (fuel, oil and toxic and corrosive items)
- Electronic and medical waste
- Tires (vehicle and aircraft)
- Paints and lacquers
- Batteries
KEEP LIDS AND GATES CLOSED
Close dumpster lids, secure gates and keep enclosures orderly at all times to discourage birds and other wildlife which are attracted to trash and debris.
LET US KNOW
Overflowing dumpsters or those with lids that won’t close and enclosure areas that are not accessible due to oversized or inappropriate items should be reported to the Airport Facilities Office at 239-643-0733.
*Dispose of these types of items at the appropriate recycle locations.
